About PDO Threads

Minimally invasive non-surgical thread to lift and contour areas including nose / nasal bridge, midface, and jawline.

Dr. Rachel works with a variety of PDO Threads including MINT PDO and Nova Threads. Selection is based on factors including patient aesthetic goals.

MINT PDO Threads:

MINT PDO is a FDA cleared, PDO thread manufactured and distributed by HansBiomed in a state-of-the-art facility under the strictest quality and safety standards. HansBiomed Corporation is the first Asian tissue bank approved by the US FDA. We produce safe and high quality allograft products and biological implants in accordance with US FDA, EATB (European Association of Tissue Bank), and AATB (American Association of Tissue Bank) guidelines and standards.

What is MINT PDO?

MINT PDO is from  South Korea, and it is a safe & effective absorbable suture made from a biocompatible material called PDO, polydioxanone. With a decade worth of safety track record in surgery, PDO is a safe raw material that has been used for orthopedic and cardiovascular surgery for wound closure. Starting 2004, PDO’s use has evolved so that it is applied for minimally invasive procedure such as for soft tissue approximation in MINT PDO’s procedures. Additionally, in 2016, MINT PDO received  510(K) clearance from the FDA by demonstrating that the device to be marketed is safe and effective, and it is  currently used globally in 14 other countries worldwide.

MINT PDO is used to pull and approximate soft tissues of the sagging skin to a desired position. MINT’s bi-directional and helically positioned barbs strongly anchor onto the soft tissue and then approximate it to the desired position. The procedure is simple and done through local anesthesia. Patients will experience minimal pain, minimal scarring, and a rapid recovery.

Who is a good candidate for MINT PDO?

MINT PDO procedures are safe for adults who keep up with healthy lifestyles and have maintained their weight for at least three months.

How does MINT PDO work?

MINT PDO thread is a minimally invasive procedure that does not require general anesthesia nor big incisions. It is introduced into the deeper layers of the skin, and the helically molded barbs on the MINT PDO anchors onto the sagging tissue, and the thread is lifted upwards to achieve an instant, rejuvenating & contouring effect.

What is a recovery time?

After the procedure, patients may immediately return to daily lives, but they should consult with their physicians before resuming exercise and other intense activities.

What are possible side effects?

Although minimal, side effects may include but are not limited to bruising, dimpling, and swelling.

How long do the results last?

Patients will see immediate results after the procedure that can last up to 1 year.  Despite being relatively new to the US market, MINT has a stronger fixation power and better specification designs in comparison to other PDO threads. By restoring the patient’s lost youth with a sharper jawline and V-line, MINT procedures address signs of aging caused by gravity, such as sagging skin.

What are additional benefits of MINT PDO?

Not only that, patients may also experience improvement in skin texture, fine lines, and elasticity from collagen stimulation and neovascularization.  As a result, after about 6-8 months when MINT PDO is completely dissolved by the body into water and carbon dioxide, the results will last for about 3-6 months more due to the collagen stimulation. With minimal scarring and downtime, it is an amazing option for patients looking into achieving instant and natural-looking results.

Nova Threads: The original Absorbable PDO Threads

Introduced to the US in 2015, NovaThreads were the first Absorbable PDO threads of their kind. Using an absorbable material, Polydioxanone, they were quickly adopted by practitioners in the United States and still are their number one choice today.

Polydioxanone is used for biomedical applications, particularly in cardiothoracic surgery. It is fully absorbed by hydrolysis within 4 to 6 months and doesn't create any scar tissue. The foreign body stimulates collagen synthesis and the skin structure created will hold for another 12 to 15 months.

NovaThreads are needles that are pre-loaded with a PDO thread. Dr. Rachel simply inserts the whole suture in the interstitial tissue at subdermal level, parallel to the surface of the skin, and pulls the needle out.

The PDO thread remains under the skin, producing a result such as a brow lift, jawline contouring, or reduction of marionette lines. Dr. Rachel may use PDO / NovaThreads in tandem with dermal fillers, Botox Cosmetic, and/or Kybella to achieve desired results for patients.

Pricing for Threads: price per area enhanced by threads begins at $1050.
